Vacation Rental Registration

To operate a short term rental property in Malibu you are required to get an STR permit as per Ordinance No. 468. If you are operating a short term rental without a permit you may be subject to fines up to $1,000 per day or violation, or twice the advertised short-term rental’s daily rental rate. Navigating the vacation rental registration in Malibu is extremely important. New rules being implemented January 1st 2023 require your property to have a valid Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) operating permit. This process can take 6 months or longer so it is imperative that you begin the process now if you would like to provide short term rental services in 2023.
