Los Angeles Short-Term Rental Guidelines

What You Need To Know

The Home-Sharing Ordinance, enforced by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning, regulates short-term rentals in the city. The ordinance aims to prevent the conversion of homes into hotels, preserve affordable housing, and minimize the impact of short-term rentals on residential neighborhoods.

To legally participate in home-sharing, hosts must register with the City of Los Angeles and obtain a Home-Sharing Registration Number. Primary residents can rent their homes for up to 180 days per year, while non-primary residents can only rent out the property if it is their primary residence. Hosts are required to comply with certain rules, such as providing a Code of Conduct to guests, obtaining liability insurance, and not offering more than one home-sharing rental at a time.

Business Tax License

A business tax license is required to operate a vacation rental property in Los Angeles.
